Notice that the community was already established at this point with a list of existing businesses in place.

The prospect of a canal coming through the area made it possible for enterprising men to capitalize on future development. These 42 lots are located north and south along the existing canal, and along Clayborn Street north of the canal. Those on north Main Street and Clayborn Street were being offered by William Holland while those south of the proposed canal were owned by David Mount.
